From hilarious picture books to captivating page-turners, Shenandoah County school libraries celebrated National Book Month in October by sparking the love of reading with book fairs, contests and good old-fashioned storytime.
“There’s an independence that I think is so exciting for kids when they are able to read, discover and explore on their own,” said W.W. Robinson Elementary School librarian Lucinda Erbach. “That spark of ‘I’m able to do this and control this,' with parents monitoring, of course. There’s that sense of independence that is attached to reading.”
Started in 2003 by the National Book Foundation, National Book Month each October promotes reading, writing and literature by encouraging readers of all ages to engage with books and authors.
