(FOX40.COM) — Turlock officials are warning residents and business owners of fraudulent emails impersonating the city's planning division.

Officials with the City of Turlock and the Turlock Police Department said the scammers impersonated an employee with the planning division, requesting $5,000 in wire transfers, as they referenced legitimate projects.
"The fraudulent message appeared to come from 'City of Turlock Planning Division' but originated from a non-City domain and included a fake invoice and bank information," officials said.
