TAMPA, Fla. (WCJB) - Gov. Ron DeSantis announced plans to “pull the plug” on visas for foreign workers at public universities in Florida.
The governor announced his plan to direct the state Board of Governors to stop hiring employees on H-1B visas during a news conference at the University of South Florida (USF) in Tampa.
During the announcement, he listed positions at Florida universities held by immigrants on visas and questioned why an American couldn’t fill the role.
“Clinical assistant professor from the West Bank, Clinical assistant professor from supposed ‘Palestine,’ Why are they... Is that just social justice that they’re doing? And that’s the University of Florida,” said DeSantis.
