Orange County Mayor Jerry L. Demings held a news conference regarding the suspension of Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) Benefits on Wednesday at 2 p.m.
Demings said he will be writing a letter to Gov. Ron DeSantis. He says he knows the Florida government has the ability to look within its budget to see if there are discretionary dollars that can be brought forward to assist during the crisis.
If the suspension of the SNAP program continues for days and weeks, it will no longer be something the county can address. It will surpass the local government's ability to deal with it, and fall back to the state and federal governments.
Demings was joined by Eric Gray, executive director of the Christian Service Center for the Homeless, along with representatives of Second Harves
