City officials, county leaders and community members gathered Tuesday, Oct. 28, at Amarillo City Hall for a special ceremony held before the regular City Council meeting to unveil the Amarillo Cowboy, a bronze sculpture honoring the region’s Western roots, work ethic and enduring spirit.
The statue, donated by longtime arts patrons King and Diane Hill, was created by King’s late father, Jack Hill, a renowned sculptor whose works appear across Texas and the Southwest. The piece now stands on the third floor of City Hall, just outside the Amarillo City Council chambers.
Mayor Cole Stanley opened the ceremony by thanking the Hill family for their “generous gift,” calling the statue “a representation of how we truly live in this part of the country.”
