Several Outback Steakhouse restaurants across the United States have served their last Bloomin' Onions.
Parent company Bloomin' Brands has closed a handful of locations across the United States, including at least two restaurants in Florida. Bloomin' Brands opened the first Outback in 1988 in Tampa, Florida.
Bloomin' Brands operates more than 1,450 restaurants, including more than 670 Outback Steakhouse locations throughout the country, according to its most recent quarterly report filed Aug. 7. These recent closures come about 20 months after Bloomin' Brands shuttered 41 locations in February 2024, with Outback Steakhouse restaurants making up the majority of the closures.
Bloomin' Brands' restaurant portfolio also includes Carrabba’s Italian Grill (with more than 200 locations in the U.S.), Bonefish Grill (160+) and Fleming’s Prime Steakhouse & Wine (60+). The company operates over 350 restaurants in other countries, primarily in Brazil and South Korea.
Employees who worked at restaurants that have closed will have a chance to work at nearby restaurants if possible, Bloomin' Brands spokesperson Elizabeth Daly told USA TODAY in a statement.
Those locations were closed after a periodic review, she said, adding that, "These are business decisions that are part of our ongoing turnaround plan."
"We considered a variety of factors, including sales and traffic, trade areas, and potential investments to improve performance," Daly said.
