NEWPORT Ore. (KPTV) - A Lincoln County judge has sentenced 27-year-old Emerson Cromwell to life in prison for killing his 15-month old daughter in 2022.

Cromwell was convicted in September by a jury of second-degree murder, first-and-second-degree assault, and first-degree manslaughter after a nearly month-long trial.

Prosecutors said Cromwell was alone with his daughter on August 9, 2022, when he called 911 to report that she was unconscious. Medics took the baby to a local hospital in Lincoln City, where doctors found she had a severe brain injury. She was flown to OHSU Doernbecher Children’s Hospital in Portland and died the next morning.

An autopsy found she died from blunt force trauma to the head. Medical experts testified that her injuries could only have been caused by abuse.
