SOMERSET, Vt. (WCAX) - Somerset has a population that varies between five and seven people, according to local officials. Like neighboring Glastenbury , it’s one of the smallest communities in the state, with a boom and bust logging history that ended with it being disincorporated in 1937. In this week’s “Vermont’s Own,” Cat Viglienzoni visits the Windham County community for those who seek solitude.

Getting to one of Vermont’s smallest towns requires a commitment to seven miles of dusty dirt roads and a willingness to embrace isolation.

The main feature Somerset is known for is its reservoir, which took shape in the early 1900s and continues to draw people to this remote location.
