The city of Watertown has paid the city of Waterbury over $30 million in debt, according to city officials.
It comes after voters in Watertown made the decision to approve a $30 million bond to pay back debt to the city of Waterbury. This is the result of a longstanding legal battle.

Waterbury, which supplies water and sewage to Watertown, raised their rates in 2018.
Instead of complying with the new rates, Watertown continued to charge residents the lower rate and spent years defending themselves in court. But the court decided that Watertown needs to pay that money back.
As a result of the payment, people in Watertown will have to pay increased water and sewer rates.
