TAYLORVILLE, Ill. (WCIA) -- Tariffs and economic uncertainty are causing revenues to dry up for Illinois farmers. With no end to the trade war in sight, the state is taking action -- but even state officials said there is only so much they can do to help.
It is all coming down to a new executive order. Governor JB Pritzker said Illinois can't overstep federal trade policy. But, it can give resources to farmers to help keep them afloat while the state works to find new markets for farmers to sell to.
Bill Curtin and his wife Linda have been farming outside of Taylorville for decades. Bill's father bought the land in the 60s and his family has worked it ever since. Lately, however, things aren't going well on the farm.
"Farmers are losing somewhere around $0.90 a bushel," Curtin said.
