NEW YORK (PIX11) -- Commuters are always ready to talk about transit. It’s one of the hot issues in the campaign for mayor.

The leading candidates have outlined specific positions, including more city control, free buses, and increased fare enforcement.

MTA Chairman Janno Lieber says they’re thrilled more people are talking about more transit and faster transit.

“Transit is an affordability solution,” he said as the MTA held its monthly board meeting in Lower Manhattan.

Former Governor Andrew Cuomo proposes city oversight of big projects. He had an influence on transit during his terms in office.

Assemblymember Zohran Mamdani has made faster and free buses a prominent part of his campaign. He led last year's pilot program for a free bus line in each borough.
