Bismarck, ND (KXNET) — If you had plans of having you're own homegrown eggs from your backyard chickens in Bismarck city limits, you'll have to go elsewhere for now.
Earlier this month, Bismarck City commissioner John Risch appealed the denial of a zoning ordinance text amendment that would allow chickens to be kept within city limits and to eliminate setback requirements for coops within residential properties. While chickens are allowed in Rural Bismarck areas, the appeal for within city limits was denied.
Daniel Nairn, the Planning Director in the Planning Department with the City of Bismarck, shared what went into the process when it came to the appeal denial. He said, "Inside of city limits, they have been historically not allowed, and currently still not allowed. We did pursue an o
