Halloween is a hazardous time for our furry friends, with multiple national pet insurance companies reporting spikes in toxicity poisonings around Halloween and throughout the rest of the holiday season. One of the most dangerous desserts for dogs? Chocolate.
“The darker the chocolate, the more poisonous it is to dogs," explains veterinarian Mark Ryan from Monument View Vet Hospital. "It affects their heart rate and their nervous system. The higher the cacao count, the more toxic it is."
