CELINA, Texas — At the Collin County Courthouse this Wednesday, three attorneys—including State Representative Mitch Little—announced a significant legal development for Texas parents and children. For decades, the state's sovereign immunity shielded public school districts from being held accountable in cases of sexual misconduct. But as of Sept. 1, that’s changed.
"For decades, the predation of our children has essentially gone unabated because of sovereign immunity in our state… until now," said attorney and State Rep Little, highlighting the historic nature of this legal shift.
The change comes through House Bill 4623, a new law that holds school districts accountable for sexual misconduct by employees, allowing parents and victims to seek civil justice. This new accountability comes
