SPRING HILL, Tenn. (WKRN) — Changes to the electric vehicle market will once again shake up some Spring Hill jobs.
A spokesperson for General Motors told News 2 that the company "is realigning EV capacity." While the spokesperson added that the corporation is "committed" to U.S. manufacturing, he also added that battery cell production at the Spring Hill Ultium Cells plant will pause starting in January 2026. Affected employees could be eligible "to continue receiving a significant portion of their regular wages or salary, plus benefits," the spokesperson said.
Cell production operations would not resume until mid-2026, the spokesperson said.
"During the temporary pause Ultium Cells plans to make upgrades to both facilities to provide greater flexibility," the statement reads, in part.
