BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ( WBRC ) - Free plates of taco soup and grilled cheese from the Pineapple Xpress food truck saw 100 federal workers in Birmingham’s Social Security Administration through lunch Wednesday.

“I just did what I could, it’s not my regular menu,” said Ashlynn Hopkins, owner and operator of the truck.

Wednesday marks 28 days since the federal government shutdown began .

With congressional Republican and Democratic lawmakers unable to agree on a spending bill to fund the government, federal workers across the country continue to show up to their jobs without pay.

“The uncertainty is the hardest part,” said one federal worker who stood in line for the food truck.
