AMARILLO, Texas (KAMR/KCIT) — The Fermi America project is designed to become one of the world's largest artificial intelligence data centers, built to power and process massive amounts of digital information.

The facility will operate on its own private power grid, capable of generating enough electricity to support the increasing demand of AI and data infrastructure across the country.

The project will generate and manage its own electricity through a private system rather than using the power grid. Officials said this will make the facility more stable, efficient and capable of handling the massive energy demands.

Once complete, officials said the data center will generate 11 gigawatts of power.

"If you were powering New York City, it's times two, is 11 gigawatts of power," Cathy La
