Already having a tough night against the Columbus Blue Jackets, things only got worse for the Toronto Maple Leafs when they lost Steven Lorentz.

Lorentz was injured with just over three minutes remaining in the second period, crashing hard into the end boards after attempting a shot on Blue Jackets goaltender Elvis Merzlikins.

With play continuing after Lorentz’s fall, Columbus defenceman Dante Fabbro put the puck past Toronto netminder Cayden Primeau just moments later to make it 5-1.

Lorentz was visibly frustrated as he made his way to the bench and eventually headed to the locker room for evaluation.

The Maple Leafs later announced that the forward would not return to finish the contest.
