The U.S. women's national team closed out a three-game international window with a dominant 6-0 win over New Zealand in Kansas City on Wednesday night.
After splitting a pair of games against a strong Portugal side, the Football Ferns offered little resistance against Emma Hayes' side at CPKC Stadium.
Emma Sears scored her first career hat trick, but she was hardly the only USWNT player to impress.
Catarina Macario netted a brace and Rose Lavelle scored a stunner before halftime, while Michelle Cooper grabbed two assists in front of her home fans.
Let's take a look back at how the USWNT players fared in a comfortable evening.
As a reminder, here’s the Pro Soccer Wire player rating scale:
- 1: Abysmal. Literally any member of our staff would have been been able to play at this level.
- 6: Adequate. This is our base score.
- 10: Transcendent, era-defining performance. This is Carli Lloyd vs. Japan in the 2015 World Cup final.
GK: Claudia Dickey - 7
Only had two saves to make, but one was a superb diving stop off a header early in the second half. Was solid with her feet as well, going 23-for-25 passing.
LB: Lilly Reale - 6.5
Wasn't troubled much defensively, allowing her to roam forward on the left flank. The Gotham FC defender found teammates with purposeful forward passes, keeping her team on the front foot.
CB: Jordyn Bugg - 7
An excellent showing for a defender who plays beyond her 19 years. Bugg had a team-high three interceptions and showed plenty of composure on the ball, both under pressure and with no defenders near.
CB: Kennedy Wesley - 6.5
A promising display on Wesley's USWNT debut, though the Wave center back didn't have much to do defensively. But the 24-year-old was there when she needed to be and went 67 for 68 in her passing.
RB: Emily Sams - 6.5
Normally a center back, the Orlando Pride defender enjoyed a mostly comfortable evening at right back. Sams grabbed an assist on Macario's first goal with an accurate low cross from the right.
CM: Claire Hutton - 7
Highly involved before her halftime withdrawal, maintaining possession and keeping the USWNT ticking with several crisp passes forward.
CM: Lily Yohannes - 7
Demonstrated her refined skillset on the USWNT's opener, as her backheel played a vital role in the build-up. The 18-year-old effectively spread play wide and continued to show her quality on the ball.
CAM: Rose Lavelle - 8
A star showing in just one half for the captain on the night. Lavelle pulled the strings in midfield, beating defenders off the dribble and finding teammates with telling through balls. Her five key passes led all players. The highlight, of course, was a first-time half volley with her weaker right foot, one of the best goals the USWNT has scored all year.
LW: Emma Sears - 8.5
The hat trick hero scored her first two goals on very similar plays. On both occasions, Sears got in front of her defender at the back post to steer home a cross from Michelle Cooper. Completed her hat trick with a simple tap-in on the doorstep. Aside from the goals, Sears was dangerous on the left flank and used her physicality to beat defenders. With an incredible seven shots on target, Sears could have had even more.
FW: Catarina Macario - 8
Macario was everywhere her teammates needed her to be playing as a lone No. 9, shifting all over the pitch to serve as an outlet. Scored her first goal with a strong first-time effort from a Sams cross, then got a second by holding off a defender and slamming a close-range shot home. A superb all-around effort.
RW: Michelle Cooper - 8
Playing in front of her home fans, Cooper was a constant threat on the right flank. Assisted the USWNT's opener with an excellent first touch off a Yohannes backheel and a pinpoint low cross for Sears, then grabbed another assist for Sears with a sliding cross.
Cooper used her pace and physicality to beat defenders off the dribble and drew a game-high two fouls. As Hayes said prior to the game, Cooper was a "firecracker."
Sub: Sam Coffey - 7
An excellent showing after coming on at the break, Coffey drove play forward and won possession back tenaciously.
Sub: Lindsey Heaps - 7
Ran the show after coming on as a halftime sub, linking play well and setting teammates up with well-placed through balls. Grabbed an assist for Macario's second and could have had another had Yazmeen Ryan finished a breakaway.
Sub: Jaedyn Shaw - 6.5
Confident with the ball at her feet, Shaw could have picked up a goal and an assist on a different night.
Sub: Lo’eau LaBonta - 6
Wasn't highly involved but gave her home fans a thrill just by being on the pitch.
Sub: Yazmeen Ryan - 5.5
Picked up where Cooper left off, giving New Zealand trouble on the right flank. Missed a breakaway wide after a great through ball from Heaps.
Sub: Eva Gaetino - N/R
Played the final 10 minutes in her first cap in a year, and only second ever.
