The Millvale Community Library is turning Giant Eagle’s upcoming penny exchange into a way to give back to people in need.

"My office is right in that window, and it is all day long, constant. People are coming, whether it’s somebody dropping off or somebody picking up,” said library Executive Director Melissa Mason.

Now that SNAP benefits will go on pause in November, Mason said there’s been an uptick in visitors in need and those who want to help.

"This is a time, and it reminds me of COVID. Everybody kind of wants to come together, and if they're able to help, they want to help, but a lot of people don't know what to do,” said Mason. “So, they're l
