A 21-year-old woman who died in custody after a "medical episode" has been remembered by her family as loving and vibrant.

Wiradjuri woman Chelsea Bracken was on remand in Tasmania's Mary Hutchinson Women's Prison when she suffered the episode on Saturday, the prison service said.

She was taken to the Royal Hobart Hospital and died on Monday.
