LINCOLN, ND (KXNET) — The Lincoln Police Department is warning of a new scam in which people are attempting to solicit wire transfers by impersonating the city's Planning and Zoning Board.
The people behind the scam are attempting to convince residents of the City of Lincoln to pay fake invoices for certain fees.
The Lincoln PD says the commission is not sending invoices or seeking wire transfers, a common tool for scammers to use because of how difficult they are to reverse. The city will also never use high-pressure tactics or require payment through wire transfer, gift card, or cryptocurrency.
To spot the scam, look for the following three things: • Look for a request for payment via any of the aforementioned methods. • See if the message contains threatening or urgent language,
