OCALA, Fla. (WCJB) - A funeral date and location have been set for 18-year-old Shannon Rushing, who was tragically hit by a car and killed in Ocala on Monday while walking to her bus stop.

The family of Rushing shared that they will hold a funeral service for her on Saturday, Nov. 8, at 9 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Ocala.

A GoFundMe was set up by the family and has surpassed its $8,000 goal and is nearing $10,000 as of Thursday afternoon.

Following the tragedy, Shanta Norton, Rushing’s sister and guardian, launched a change.org petition calling for state or national leaders to pass “Shannon’s Law,” to fund infrastructure for pedestrian safety.
