CLEVELAND — As Clevelanders prepare to turn back their clocks this weekend, the Cleveland Division of Fire is reminding residents to check their smoke alarms — a simple step that could save lives.
“Check your smoke alarms when you change your clocks,” the department emphasized in a seasonal safety message. Fire officials say the end of daylight saving time is a timely reminder to ensure smoke alarms are functioning properly.
“A house fire is often a race against the clock,” said Lt. Mike Norman, public information officer for Cleveland Fire. “Early notification from a working smoke alarm gives residents time to escape and enables firefighters to arrive in time to minimize the damage to the house and contents. Every second counts.”
