CLEVELAND — If you drive in to downtown Cleveland , you might notice something new on the ground: Bright yellow street installations that have appeared at several downtown intersections in the last two weeks.

Even on a rainy, dreary day, the bright yellow curbs are hard to miss, and according to the city, that's exactly the point.

"To get people to stay alert, pay attention, maybe look up from a device or a screen in their car if they happen to be doing that," said Matthew Moss, a senior strategist with Mayor Justin Bibb's office.

Moss says the installations are called "quick curbs" — part of a safety intervention technique known as centerline hardening.
