AUSTIN (KXAN) — The Austin Police Department shared some tips today to keep your family safe during trick-or-treating Friday evening.
Austin police recommend you trick or treat in a group, remind your kids not to enter a stranger's home for candy, only stop at well-lit houses, and follow traffic signals.
APD also offered some tips on how you can keep your child safe from any potential dangers in their candy.
APD recommended setting rules about not eating treats until your child comes home and immediately inspecting all treats before allowing your child to eat them, including any homemade treats or food.
“Candy that has been opened should be thrown away,” APD said.
For drivers, Austin police stressed the importance of keeping an eye out for pedestrians throughout Halloween night
