Spartanburg County's former top law enforcement officer admitted in federal court that he "violated the law" and broke the public's trust.
Chuck Wright, who spent more than two decades as Spartanburg County sheriff, pleaded guilty Oct. 30 to charges of wire fraud conspiracy, obtaining controlled substances by misrepresentation, and conspiracy to commit theft concerning programs receiving federal funds. Co-defendants Amos Durham, the former sheriff's department chaplain, and Lawson Berry Watson, Wright's relative, also pleaded guilty to theft and fraud charges.
