The body of a 17-year-old boy as been discovered after disappearing during a swim in a dam in central Queensland.

Emergency services were called to Callide Dam in Dumgree, located in the Banana Shire, about 5pm Wednesday after reports of a missing swimmer.

Police were told a 17-year-old boy went swimming in the water and failed to resurface, sparking a mammoth search with assistance from the water police and SES.

The search was suspended at 10pm Wednesday and resumed 6am Thursday.

Police divers found the boy’s remains in the water about 4.30pm.

A report will be prepared for the coroner.
