Queensland and New South Wales are bracing for what is feared could be one of the "most dangerous" weather days over the last few years as supercell thunderstorms are expected to hit both states.
Severe storms packing heavy rain, destructive winds and giant hail are forecast for South Eeast Queensland and north-eastern NSW on Friday, Saturday and into Sunday.
Meteorologists have warned the storms have the ability to produce tornadoes, which can develop in supercells.
Areas in the firing line include Brisbane, Warwick, Toowoomba, the Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast, and communities in the Wide Bay Burnett region, such as Gympie.
In NSW, locals in Tamworth, Grafton and Coffs Harbour have been warned of severe storms, with communities north of Armidale in particular expected to cop the brun
