U.S. Rep. Kweisi Mfume, D-Md., said he’s unfazed by a Democratic primary challenge from Baltimore City Councilman Mark Conway, telling WBAL’s C4 and Bryan Nehman on Thursday that facing opponents “comes with the territory” of public service.
“I’ve never been in an election or re-election campaign where I didn’t have an opponent, Democrat or Republican — and most times I’ve had both,” Mfume said in the interview. “So I’m not surprised at all. I expect that sort of thing is always going to happen.”

Mfume, who represents Maryland’s 7th Congressional District, said he plans to focus on his record and the work he continues to do for Baltimore residents rather than the politics of the campaign.
