DALLAS, Texas — In a Dallas classroom filled with the sound of introductions and handshakes, job seekers rotated between tables — like musical chairs, but with higher stakes.

Each exchange offered a few minutes of face time that’s increasingly rare in an era of automated rejection emails and silent ghosting. Army veteran Franklin Taylor has felt that sting.

“When it’s a position that you really want,” he said, “every rejection is like taking a piece at you.”

Taylor was among more than a hundred veterans, military spouses, and young adults who attended Thursday’s speed-networking and mock interview event hosted by NPower, a national nonprofit that trains job seekers for tech careers.
