ST. CHARLES, Mo. (First Alert 4) -Non-profits across the region are preparing for growing need as SNAP benefits run out this weekend and the holidays approach.
Between Missouri and Illinois, about one million seniors receive SNAP benefits. Senior centers around the area are gearing up for an expected spike in requests from older adults seeking daily hot meals or Meals on Wheels after their SNAP benefits end.
“There’s a lot of need out there,” said Christine Hustedde, chief executive officer of Aging Ahead , a non-profit area agency on aging serving daily hot meals at its centers and delivering Meals on Wheels.
Seniors face difficult choices
Times are already tough for older adults, according to Hustedde.
