ST. LOUIS, Mo. (First Alert 4) -Family, teachers and classmates gathered at a South City preschool to remember 2-year-old Bre’Yon Wells, releasing blue and white balloons into the sky for a child whose life was cut short.

“My baby was so happy, he was so loving, he loved everybody and everything,” said Bianca Wells, Bre’Yon’s mother. “He just wanted to be a kid and enjoy life... I thought that’s what he was doing.”

St. Louis Metro Police say the child was left in the care of 21-year-old Nicco Cotton on Monday, Oct. 27. Cotton, described as a close friend or boyfriend of Bre’Yon’s mother, is accused of killing the toddler.

According to court documents, Cotton admitted to sexually assaulting and strangling 2-year-old Bre’Yon. After turning himself in on Thursday, prosecutors charged him
