KAUKAUNA, Wis. (WBAY) - With Halloween on Friday and the holidays just around the corner, sweet treats are in high demand in northeast Wisconsin.

A Kaukauna candy shop owner says keeping those shelves stocked is getting expensive thanks to rising cocoa and ingredient costs.

Back in April, the Trump administration announced a 10% tax on nearly all imports, including cocoa beans.

In August, those tariffs increased to 15%, targeting key cocoa-producing nations such as the Ivory Coast.

The West African nation is responsible for more than 40% of the global supply, contributing more than 5 billion pounds of chocolate in 2023.

Tariffs on cocoa and cocoa products now range between 15% and 39%.
