MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) -Wisconsin lawmakers gathered in Madison to host an Emergency Food Collection on Thursday as the government shutdown will stop FoodShare benefits on Friday.

State Representative Shelia Stubbs, Congressman Mark Pocan and Dane County legislators attended the event.

Rep. Stubbs emphasized how much uncertainty some families are facing.

“The federal government shutdown means uncertainty and fear to many of our constituents,” said Rep. Stubbs. “It means uncertainty and fear for our food banks. it means uncertainty in food for our shelves being depleted but most importantly quicker than they can even restock them.”

Numbers from the State Fiscal Bureau indicate it could cost the state about $114 millions per month to feed families who use snap.
