ST. LOUIS, Mo. (First Alert 4) -The Normandy Schools Collaborative will soon have 15 new electric buses.
The district broke ground Thursday on a new bus depot there, expected to be ready by the spring.
Most of the funding came from an Environmental Protection Agency grant.
School leaders said the new buses should lower future transportation costs, help the environment and benefit students.
“Energy efficient, quiet, they don’t have to consume exhaust fumes, the buses are quiet going through neighborhoods, they’re comfortable to ride in, they get to ride on some luxury if you will,” said Superintendent Michael D. Triplett.
Normandy is just the latest district to add electric buses, joining Ritenour, Ferguson-Florissant and Edwardsville.
