IOWA CITY, Iowa (KCRG) - The Kid Captain program has become a beloved Hawkeye tradition since 2009. The partnership between the University of Iowa Health Care Stead Family Children’s Hospital and the Iowa Hawkeyes reached a milestone this year.
For 16 years, the Iowa Hawkeyes have honored their Kid Captains. In August, the 12 captains and their families joined the Hawkeye football team for Kids Day. They are also honored on the field at Iowa home games and get to pick a song for one of the greatest traditions in college football, the Hawkeye Wave. Over time, the program has evolved, but the significance behind it is to share stories of pediatric patients.
