Liberal Senator Alex Antic has expressed concerns over Victorian parliament's decision to pass a treaty with First Nations, warning of its long-term impact on the country's unity and development.
Victorians have been warned that their first-in-the-country Indigenous treaty could divide the community and put up serious roadblocks to development.
The statewide treaty bill was passed in the Victorian parliament on Thursday night, just over two years after the state rejected the national Voice to Parliament.
Premier Jacinta Allan forged ahead with the proposal, which would create a new elected body called Gellung Warl, despite more than 60 per cent of Victorians either opposing it or being undecided, according to a new IPA survey.
