NEW YORK STATE, N.Y. (WWTI) - The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation is asking hunters to participate in an annual project to help those in need.
The DEC is teaming up with Feeding New York State for a drive that facilitates the donation of 50,000 - 70,000 pounds of venison from their hunts this year.
Nearly three million New Yorkers are at risk of losing federal Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or SNAP benefits, and the DEC is encouraging hunters to donate their harvest.
The program works through partnerships between Feeding New York State and deer processors throughout New York.
Here are the four simple steps • Donate any legally harvested deer by dropping it off at a participating processor. • We suggest you call one of the participating processors
