TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) -- Experts at Johns Hopkins All Childrens Hospital are sounding the alarm saying the mix of weekend celebrations and trick-or-treating could lead to heavier traffic and more distractions on the road which could create potentially dangerous scenarios for kids in costumes.
They say there are easy tips parents can do to help keep your kids safe. You’re urged to plan routes ahead of time, use reflective clothing, and carry flashlights.
“For families, go over the pedestrian rules if possible, cross at the crosswalk. And now also looking at costumes. Once I think a costume, make sure it fits correctly. And lighter costumes are easier to see,” said John’s Hopkins All Children’s Hospital injury prevention program manager Petra Stanton.
Drivers should slow down and stay alert
