KNOX COUNTY, Tenn. — An 18-year-old man is facing charges after deputies said he threatened to shoot up Gibbs High School on Tuesday.
Gavin Smith, 18, is charged with threatening to commit an act of mass violence.
According to a warrant for Smith's arrest, the Knox County Sheriff's Office major crimes unit responded to Gibbs High School at 10:51 a.m. for a report of a threat. When detectives arrived, they spoke with two witnesses.
The witnesses said earlier in the morning, Smith was in class and started making threats to cause self-harm to himself and shoot everyone at the school, according to the warrant. Both witnesses told detectives they believed Smith was serious and they were fearful.
