KNOX COUNTY, Tenn. (WATE) — An 18-year-old student has been charged with threatening to commit an act of mass violence after detectives responded to Gibbs High School on Tuesday.
According to court records, Gavin Parker Smith, 18, of Knoxville, was arrested on Tuesday and is facing one count of threatening to commit an act of mass violence. His bond was set at $20,000.
Around 10:50 a.m. Tuesday, Major Crimes Unit detectives with the Knox County Sheriff's Office responded to Gibbs High School after they received a report of threats being made. A General Sessions docket explains that the detectives spoke with two witnesses, who told them that they were in class with Smith earlier that morning when he started making threats of harming himself and that he would "shoot everyone in the school.
