KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) - Gavin Parker Smith, an 18-year-old Gibbs High School student, was charged with threatening to commit an act of mass violence Tuesday after threatening to shoot himself and others over Snapchat, according to a police report obtained by WVLT News.
Detectives with the Knox County Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Unit responded to Gibbs High School around 11 a.m. on Tuesday, the report said, after receiving reports of threats.
After arriving, detectives spoke with two witnesses who both said Smith had made threats to harm himself and others in class earlier that morning.
According to the police report, both witnesses said they believed Smith was serious. Upon reviewing Smith’s Snapchat, detectives found evidence of him saying he was going to “shoot up the school.”
