OCEANA COUNTY, MI-- Peak fall color has arrived throughout West Michigan, with vibrant autumn hues on display as many trees across the region still hold their leaves.
MLive senior photographer Joel Bissell traveled through the region Wednesday, Oct. 29, documenting the colorful landscape on a road trip from Grand Rapids to Muskegon and northward up the Lake Michigan shoreline to Oceana County.
While Muskegon State Park showed pockets of great color, many trees there remained unchanged, which can be common for areas directly along Lake Michigan’s shore.
The journey along U.S. 31 revealed autumn in full swing, with particularly impressive displays near the Silver Lake sand dunes and in the communities of Shelby and Hart. The inland hills of Oceana County teemed with vibrant fall foliage.
