Major-General Yifat Tomer-Yerushalmi, the top legal officer of Israel’s military resigned on Friday amid a criminal inquiry into the leak of a video showing soldiers allegedly abusing a Palestinian detainee held during the Gaza war.

Tomer-Yerushalmi, who served as the military’s Advocate General, said she had authorised the video’s release in August 2024 — a decision that later sparked a political storm and her eventual ouster.
