Saskatchewan's Ralph Goodale, Canada's High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, has received one of the world's oldest and most prestigious honours. Goodale was presented with the Freedom of the City of London this week, an award that dates back nearly 800 years.
The honorary freedom is an exclusive recognition given to world leaders, cultural icons, and influential people in their field. Goodale joins a list of recipients that includes Nelson Mandela, Winston Churchill, and Florence Nightingale. He also joins fellow Canadians such as former prime ministers Wilfrid Laurier and Lester B. Pearson, as well as current Prime Minister and former Bank of England governor Mark Carney.
