COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Columbus Division of Fire released a video on Wednesday showing a fire lieutenant rescuing a dog from a house fire.

The fire occurred at a home on West Markison Avenue in south Columbus on Tuesday afternoon.

Columbus Fire said Lt. Ryan Birt was returning from his department physical when he saw the fire. He was able to be the first one on the scene.

Despite not having all of his resources, he was able to rescue a dog that was trapped on the porch.

The video shows Birt grabbing a concrete brick to free the dog from the porch as the fire worsened.

The dog was safely rescued, but Birt suffered minor burns that were treated at the scene.
