WASHINGTON COURT HOUSE, Ohio — As uncertainty surrounding SNAP benefits leaves families concerned about how they will afford food in the coming month, two sisters in Washington Court House have stepped up with a grassroots effort to help their community.
Nine-year-old Ellison and 6-year-old Avri Gilbert raised $230 through small donations from family and friends to purchase food for those in need. The initiative began when Avri approached her mother with a simple question.
"She's like, 'Hey mom, do you think that we could go get some money and buy some people some food?'" their mother, Siera Gilbert, recalled.
