CLEVELAND, Ohio -- The Cuyahoga County Sheriff’s Office has referred its investigation of an in-custody death of a woman to another agency.

The Trumbull County Sheriff’s Office will investigate the May 5 death of Tasha Grant, 39, a double-amputee who died in the hospital after being restrained and repeatedly saying “I can’t breathe,” Cuyahoga County spokesperson Jennifer Ciaccia confirmed in an email.

Last month, the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner’s Office ruled Grant’s death as a homicide caused by “physical restraint in the setting of congestive heart failure.”

During the incident, Grant became upset when a nurse tried to give her medication. She threw herself on the floor and threatened medical staff.
