As Police Scotland kicks off Operation Moonbeam on Halloween, officers in Edinburgh are gearing up to keep the capital safe.
The operation was first launched in 2018, following serious disorder in various parts of the country over bonfire night, which saw one officer in Edinburgh seriously injured when she was struck by a firework.
Last year, riots erupted in the capital and other areas across the nation, with fireworks being used to attack emergency service personnel, public transport and shops.
In 2023, some 62 police officers were injured in disorder around the fireworks season across Scotland. In response, Operation Moonbeam 2025 was launched earlier this month, promising to tackle the violence with more resources than ever.
